17 year-old boy's been been charged with the murder of Clacton teenager Jay Whiston
Jay Whiston was stabbed at a house party on Marlowe Way shortly after 10pm on Saturday, September 8. The 17-year-old boy from Aster Close died a short time later in hospital, with a subsequent provisional post-mortem examination result showing the cause of death to have been from a stab wound.
Six people from Colchester were originally arrested on suspicion of murder during the hours and days following the stabbing. After eight months’ worth of enquiries, a 17-year-old boy from Colchester was charged with one count of murder on Wednesday, May 22 and detained in police custody prior to his appearance at Colchester Magistrates Court later this afternoon.
The three remaining Colchester men, two aged 19 and one aged 18, who were all also arrested on suspicion of murder are now on police bail until Thursday, July 25 pending further enquiries. The other two people, two then 17-year-old Colchester boys were released without charge during the course of the investigation.
In mid-November, four people were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender; one of which, a then 17-year-old woman, was later released without charge. The remaining three, a 51-year-old man, a 42-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, are now on police bail also until Thursday, July 25 pending further enquiries.
Earlier this month (May), four people were arrested on suspicion of witness intimidation. Two 18-year-old men from Colchester, and two people from Clacton, a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman, are currently on police bail Thursday, June 13 pending further enquiries.
Everyone, members of the public as well as the media, are advised that the naming of juvenile suspects, those aged 17 and under, on social networking sites is illegal and contravenes the Contempt of Court Act.

Police investogate 14 year-old girl's death in Witham
Police are investigating the death of a schoolgirl in Witham.
14 year old Georgia Hedges was taken from her home to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford - then transferred to Addenbrookes in Cambridge where she later died.
The provisional results of a Post Mortem show she died of compression to the neck.
